Based in Hong Kong and established in 1993, Star Cruises is a major player in the Asia-Pacific cruising market with its five mid-sized cruise vessels and a smaller 120 passenger ship. They will add two 5,000 passenger ships scheduled to join their fleet in 2020 and 2021.
Their parent company, Genting Hong Kong, also owns Crystal Cruises, Dream Cruises, the Lloyd Werft shipyards in Germany, and a stake in Norwegian Cruise Line. In 2000, Star Cruises acquired Norwegian Cruise Line, but sold 50% of its shares to Apollo Management in 2007. In 2015, Genting purchased Crystal Cruises.
In 2016, Genting purchased the majority of shares in Lloyd Werft shipyards in Germany, the shipyard building ships for Genting’s brands. By the end of 2016 they had purchased the remaining shares of the Lloyd Werft.
Star Cruises’ fleet are ex-Norwegian Cruise Line ships that sail to the Asian countries of China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, and Taiwan.
