SkySea Cruise Line was the first contemporary cruise line specifically created for the China market. It was a joint venture between Royal Caribbean Group and China’s Ctrip that started in 2016, but ended in 2018.
In 2015, SkySea Cruises began their operations as a joint venture between Ctrip, a travel services provider, and Royal Caribbean Cruises (now named Royal Caribbean Group). Their first and only ship was SkySea Golden Era, formerly Celebrity Century. Their first cruise was from Shanghai in 2016.
In March 2018 it was announced that the joint venture would end. Marella Cruises agreed to purchase the cruise ship, Golden Era.
