Aqua Expeditions is a small boutique river cruise line with five vessels. They specialize in luxury cruises on the Amazon River of Peru, the Mekong River in Southeast Asia, the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador, and the pristine coastal waters of Eastern Indonesia. They offer a nearly 1:1 guest to crew ratio on their vessels which don’t exceed 40 passengers.
Facts About Aqua Expeditions
Aqua Expeditions was launched in 2007 with their first new build, Aqua Amazon offering uniquely intimate and life enriching river safaris on the Amazon. With the success of their first vessel, they launched their second Amazon River ship, Aria Amazon in 2011 (refreshed in 2015). In October 2014, Aqua Expeditions launched the 20-suite Aqua Mekong on the historic Mekong River.
In July 2016, the Aqua Amazon sunk due to a fire that caused an explosion. Although there were no passengers onboard, there were crewmembers that lost their lives and others that were injured.
In 2019 Aqua Expeditions added Aqua Blu as the company’s first coastal ship. The Aqua Nera was a new build in 2020, but didn’t sail its inaugural voyage until July 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Aqua Mare was acquired and refurbished in 2021 and will offer its inaugural in May 2022.
