Norway-based cruise line Hurtigruten operates a fleet of ships that offer Norwegian coastal cruises, expedition cruises as well as a ferry service. Their expedition cruise ships sail to Antarctica, the Arctic (including Greenland), the Americas, British Isles, the Norwegian Fjords, and South America. Here’s what to know to get a cruise ship job with Hurtigruten.
Facts about Hurtigruten
Since 1893, the Hurtigruten ships have carried international tourists, cargo and local passengers along the Norwegian coast. In 1993, a new era began with the modernisation of Hurtigruten’s fleet resulting in 10 new ships being added to the fleet by the end of 2007. In 2014, TDR, a British private equity firm acquired Hurtigruten and since then, they have provided the capital to refurbish existing ships as well as acquire and new ships.
In 2019, Hurtigruten added the Roald Amundsen to their fleet, a modern, hybrid-electric expedition cruise ship that carries 530 passengers and 150 crew. In 2020, the Fridtjof Nansen was completed, but it has yet to carry any passengers due to the COVID pandemic. In October 2020, Hurtigruten announced that they would separate its expedition operations from its domestic operations under a new reorganization.
Hurtigruten Expeditions will operate eight small cruise ships starting in 2021. Hurtigruten Norway will also relaunch in 2021, with seven ships on the Norwegian coastal routes.
