Silversea operates a fleet of six small ultra-luxurious all-suite cruise vessels and two expedition ships. They employ officers and crew from around the world that are recruited only through crew management agency, V-Ships. Silversea is also scheduled to launch three new ultra-luxury ships: Silver Moon (2020), Silver Origin (2020), Silver Dawn (2021), and two Evolution-class ships.
Silversea voyages and cruise expeditions sail to over 1,000 destinations and to all seven continents and pride themselves on a one-to-one crew-to-guest ratio.
In the early 1990s, the Lefebvre family of Rome, former owners of Sitmar Cruises, organised a unique cruise company in the ultra-luxury segment. (In fact, Manfredi Lefebvre d’Ovidio currently serves as Executive Chairman). Silversea launched its first ship, Silver Cloud in 1994, followed by Silver Wind in 1995, Silver Shadow in 2000, Silver Whisper in 2001, Silver Explorer (formerly Prince Albert II) in 2008, and Silver Spirit in 2009.
In June 2012, Silversea purchased the Ecuadorian company Canodros S.A., along with it their expedition ship, Galapagos Explorer II. After a major refurbishment, the ship was renamed, Silver Galapagos, and joined the current fleet of ships in September 2013.
In 2014, Silver Discoverer joined the Silversea fleet. Built in 1989, it previously sailed under the name Clipper Odyssey. It was converted into an ice-class ship in August 2017, but then it was sold to Sunstone in 2019.
In 2017 Silversea debuted their newest ship, Silver Muse. In 2018, Royal Caribbean purchased Silversea Cruises. Currently Silversea has five new ships scheduled to launch over the next few years.
