St. Lawrence Cruise Lines is a family owned and operated Canadian business with 40 years of experience in the cruise industry. They operate one classic Canadian riverboat, called MV Canadian Empress which was launched in 1981 and has the capacity to carry 66 guests. The ship’s itinerary cruises the St. Lawrence Seaway and Ottawa Rivers.
Two teams of 14 crew are hired and each team sails alternating periods of 4 or 7-night duration. The work periods are from 10 to 14 hours per cruising day and average 40 hours per week even though crew are off an equal number of days. Employment aboard the ship is seasonal and typically spans the period early to mid May and concludes in mid to late October. Many crew members return season after season.
