  1. Hi, i’m Beck and i’m from Kyrgyzstan, currently in China, is there any way you could send me a step-by-step guide to applying to a job onboard a ship? Like, from the very beginning, what are the most suitable positions for a person with certain skills, which cruise lines are good and which ones are not, who to trust when applying to this job in general and etc.

  2. hi
my name lalit singh and i selected candidates Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. how much time thy will take to provide me appointment letter so i can apply for visa

    • The amount of time that one may wait for a ship assignment varies. Some of the major cruise lines have 10, 15, 20+ cruise ships with crews that are constantly turning over for a variety of reasons. You may wait 2 weeks or you may wait 6 to 8 months. Patience and persistence with your follow up will be key to landing a contract.

  3. Hi, I am trying to get the email for the recruiter located in Trinidad and Tobago or Baltimore USA. I am currently in the US but a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago. The email address [email protected] found online is not an accurate email. Can you help please thank you!

    • That email address is the one that Disney Cruise Line lists on their Procurement Ally pages. Maybe try phoning the phone number listed for Shipmate Services
      Phone: 1 868 625 8007

  4. To Whom It May Concern

I have finished all my paper work, plus have my visa ready and now just waiting on my assignment date.

I was wondering if anyone know the rough waiting time for Seabourn cruise line?

Any help would be helpful since I have been placed in the GAP pool.

    • The time it takes to be given a ship assignment will vary depending on the need for the position you have been hired for. Continue to be persistent and patient when following up with your recruiter. Viking Recruitment is the partner that Seabourn uses. Here is a link to Viking Recruitment‘s worldwide office locations. In the “Contact Us” tab of their website, there are phone numbers and contact names in case you are looking for that type of info.

Click on the country where you are from for a listing of agencies in your region. Additionally, cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean offer the option of also applying online for current vacancies. Here is their job opening for Security Guard.

  11. Hello!
thank you for helping here!, I have one question , I already passed my interview for royal carribean as a lounge technician , I have been put into a talent gap pool and been asked to pass my medical which I already submitted to my on-boarding coordinator , do you please have an idea of how much i should wait?
    Thanks,

    • Have you also been issued a US C1D Visa? If not, then you need to follow up with your recruiter that they have what they need. In your follow up with them request that you would like to start your US Visa application. This type of follow-up will show that you know what the next step is and that you are eager to start work. If you have already been issued your C1D1 Visa and have completed your medical, then you are just waiting for a ship assignment. That stage can also vary in how long you wait – therefore effective follow-up is also required so that they understand that you know how to take initiative.

  12. Hi!!!
My name is madam Kumar, I have been selected as cafe attended and received my offer letter one month back from Royal Caribbean. I want to know that how long it takes to get letter of employment. Thank you.

    • Have you also been issued a US C1D Visa? Have you done your medical exam? If not, then you need to follow up with your recruiter that they have what they need. In your follow up with them request that you would like to start your US Visa application or request a list of approved doctors in your region that provide marine medical exams. This type of follow-up will show that you know what the next step is and that you are eager to start work. If you have already been issued your C1D1 Visa and have completed your medical, then you are just waiting for a ship assignment. • Hello madan

  13. Hi,
How can I apply for a job in cruise ship, am very much interested, though I don’t have experience in cruise but I want to get in can you guide me, am from India. I want to go as an electrician or light technician.

  14. Good day

I have passed an interview, passed a medical exam, have my Visa and applied for my seaman’s book. I was offered a job as a gift shop associate by Princess through their recruitment agency but haven’t heard anything in a week.

Is it rude to ask the recruiter if there is a position available yet? I don’t want to seem too forward and while I am very excited to start in this position, I am also growing anxious about everything that needs to be done while waiting, like resigning from my current employer, packing up my life into storage and everything I need to prepare.

How long does placement usually take and how do I approach my recruiter?

    Please advise

    Kind regards

    R

    • Congratulations on your progress so far! Your concerns are understood and valid. Contacting them today or tomorrow would not be rude. Just be careful in how you word your email/phone call. I understand that you want to give notice to your current employer and “pack your life into storage”, but a recruiter doesn’t necessarily need to hear these types of specifics. They want to know you are ready to go – without hitches. More often than not, you will have the time to resign and prepare to leave. The cruise line will send you your joining instructions which will include ship/flight/hotel details. It will be in the form of an immigration letter that you will present to immigration authorities. Your email to them could say something like, “Thank you for the job offer as a gift shop associate. I am eager to start my career with Princess Cruises. I trust that you have received and reviewed all my documentation. I look forward to hearing from you with a ship assignment.” The time it takes to receive a ship assignment varies. Princess is constantly recruiting, especially because they will be launching another ship in 2017 (I doubt you would have to wait until then). Crew are constantly turning over, so there are always vacancies that need to be filled. After you make contact this week and you don’t hear anything, I suggest contacting them every couple of weeks to keep your name on the top of the list. (Always sound patient and persistent without sounding pushy).

  15. Hi I am Grenadian living in London how do I apply for a cruise ship job?

  16. i was interview by pullmantur employer and the recruiter agency told me that i was assign under pulmantur cruises . is there any possible to request or to assign in royal carribeN cruises even i was interview by pullmantur employer as far as i know pullmantur is also under of royal carribeN international thanks.. and how long should i waiting for my loe its been 2 months??? thanks

    • Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. is the parent company of Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, Azamara Club Cruises and Pullmantur Cruises. If you look on each cruise lines’ employment website you will see that they all use the same hiring partners. Since your agency also works with the other brands, you could request to be considered for one of their other brands. Pullmantur Cruises caters to Spanish-speaking passengers and they have four ships (now that Empress is now sailing as Royal Caribbean’s Empress of the Seas). On the other hand, Royal Caribbean International is expanding. They just launched this month and they will be launching the Harmony of the Seas in a couple of months.

  17. My name is Melusi from South Africa, I have been successful Hired by NCL back in January and I have forwarded my file including medicals, how long will it take to get my Letter Of Employment.

In your follow up with them request that you would like to start your US Visa application. You could say, “I trust that you have reviewed my medical exam. 18. I have gone through the link to hiring partners in Finland but it only shows one in Cyprus and one in Italy. Nothing available for Finland.
    Thank you

    • Although an agency may be located in a country other than your own, some agencies represent a handful of countries. As is the case for Finland. There are a number of agencies in Europe that recruit applicants from Finland. From that list, the agencies that also recruit applicants from Finland are Crystal Cruises Manning, Edelweiss, Fleet Pro, G&P, Navitrans, Sea Chefs, V. Hospitality, and Viking Recruitment.

  19. Hi, I have a via skype interview with Norwegian Cruise lines on Sunday for the position of Casino Gaming Shift Manager. I need tips on how best I can prepare for the interview and what types of questions I should expect. Looking forward to a advice from you at the earliest.
    Regards

    • Sorry I did not see the urgency of this question earlier. How was your interview? Please let me know if you have any further questions.

  21. Hi good day ma’am, im from philippines, i’d like to know if you have any knowledge about the age limit to work in a cruise ship. Some says that the maximum age to work or board in a cruise ship is 35 year old so that is why im desperately not getting hire. I want to work as a housekeeper or room attendant if i have given a chance to be hire. Im very interested and willing to work. Is there any age limit? Thank you maam. I really appreciate your response soon. God cares

    • Although there isn’t a set maximum age limit to work onboard a ship, less than 35 is generally the rule of thumb for getting hired. To work as a room steward, typically the cruise lines recruit applicants that are less than 35 years old. This is due to the fact it is strenuous work with long hours (11 to 14 hours per day, 7 days per week, 8 to 10 months onboard). This isn’t to say that you aren’t capable of getting hired. If you can prove to a recruiter with a solid resume that details your similar experience of working such hours, then there is hope. You would also need to pass a maritime medical exam that proves you are fit to work at sea. Here are some hiring partners in the Philippines.

  22. Hello,
I come from China, now i’m a senior college student, and i will graduated on July this year,so u know i really havn’t experience to cruise, but could i apply to the position of security,i want to be a security guard ,working for Royal Caribbean International ?

    • If you want to work for Royal Caribbean, here’s a link to their latest vacancies. It appears that they are actively recruiting for the position of Security Guard, which you can apply directly through their website. Additionally, they use hiring partners to assist with their recruitment needs.

  23. I have just completed my diploma certificate in hospitality management in Austria, five years or more working experience including two years in a Sheraton hotel as a waiter. I have never worked in a cruise ship but always interested. can I apply directly or only through an agent. I am currently in Finland

    • Congratulations on your diploma. That coupled with your experience makes you an ideal candidate for a cruise ship job. Most cruise lines use hiring partners to assist with their recruitment needs. Here are the hiring partners in Finland that you can use to apply for cruise jobs. You can also apply directly through the cruise lines’ employment websites.

  24. Can you please take me off of your mailing list??
I seem to get constant emails of other peoples questions….

    • First allow me to apologize for the stream of other people’s questions that you have no interest in. Secondly, I would like to thank you for bringing to light something that I was unaware of when I started this website. I have looked throughout all the settings on the back end of my site and I have learned that I, personally, am unable to delete you from my subscriber list. (I definitely need to look into a better way to manage the Cruise Forum questions/answers as well as manage the subscriber list.)

Anyways, the subscription option on this WordPress site is powered by “JetPack”. Only the subscribers themselves can choose to subscribe or unsubscribe from a WordPress website that uses “JetPack” for the subscription service. That said, I found a WordPress support page that describes this issue and how you can go about “unsubscribing” to this site. Here is the link to the WordPress support page and an additional link to the JetPack contact page.

      Hopefully this helps. Sorry again.

  25. Hi there. Do the cruise ships’ jobs have a weight limit? Because

I am a bit overweight but wanted to work in a cruise ship. And my
question is, is there an age limit as well? Looking forward for your prompt reply. I really appreciate you replying to the questions on this page. Thank you.

    • Cruise lines don’t have a specific weight limit but you will have to pass a marine medical exam that will determine if you are physically and mentally fit to work at sea. As for age, the minimum age to work is generally 21 (some positions like cadets and dancers can start working onboard as early as 18). There isn’t really a maximum age, but like the weight question, you will have to be able to prove to a marine medical doctor that you are physically fit. There are some jobs that are actually more suited to more mature applicants such as Port and Shopping Guide, Port Lecturer, Cruise Sales Manager, and Loyalty Manager.

      • Wow. Thank you so much. Have a good one! I’ve already subscribe on this website. Thanks again.

  26. Good Day! I’m Nelcie from the Philippines. I’ve been waiting for the joining date from RCL, I’ve completely done PDOS and Anti-piracy and also the medical it’s been 4 months of waiting. I’m very worried for my application. How long will I wait to receive the joining date? Please, response. Thank you.

    • Hopefully while you’ve been waiting you haven’t lost touch with your recruiter. Don’t make the mistake of not sending follow-up emails. If you’ve done all the necessary paperwork, have a valid passport and US visa, then you are soooo close. If you haven’t done so already, send an email that states all the documents, training, medical, etc that you have completed and that you are ready when they are. Also, explain how excited you are to work with them. In your email you could add some information that you know about the company (it will make you sound interested in their brand, not just interested in work for any cruise line).

For example, by the summer of 2016, Royal Caribbean International will operate a fleet of 25 cruise ships which includes the Ovation of the Seas (April 2016), Harmony of the Seas (May 2016), and the return of the Empress of the Seas (Spring 2016). They have orders for an additional Oasis-class ship in 2018 and another two Quantum-class ships scheduled for 2019 and 2020.

Finish the email with a phrase like, “Looking forward to hearing from you soon and starting my career with Royal Caribbean”. You ask how long you will have to wait to receive a joining date – only those that followup on their application and hiring details, actually get placed on ships.

    • Same happening with me also

I had my final round interview on 27th jan and still waiting for LoE

I hav submited all those documents which need to create employee id?
Like police clearance background checking but still waiting for loe after that i would be able to apply for seaman’s book, medical exam, stcw and appropriate visa

      Same here

  27. Hi! I have over 15 years of customer service and sales experience between retail, car business and timeshare. My job has always been about people and their needs. I also been volunteering for a performance group of special needs children for the past couple years. Everywhere I go I get the nickname Tigger or bouncy or some sort of effervescent adjective. I’m always smiling and have a bounce in my step. More than anything I want to be a social host of some sort on a cruise ship. I was born for it. My fear is that it’s too late? I’m 39. Do you think my age or background could stop me? If so, how do I overcome?

    • Your age may hinder you from getting a job as cruise staff, but with your experience and age, I would suggest you apply for the job as a Gift Shop Associate, Port and Shopping Guide or Cruise Sales Manager. Additionally, Royal Caribbean has a new in the Guest Services department called a Royal Genie, that may also be an option.

  28. Ma’am it’s me again i create a profile in rcl trac but no action taken.can i know why?i have 8 years shipboard experience.thank you very much.i am from philippines.i heard that salary in rccl just only $ 50?it is true?thank you

    • Creating a profile in the RCL-CTrac system is only one step towards pursing a job with Royal Caribbean. You also need to apply through the hiring partner in your region. In the Philippines, RCCL uses Philippine Transmarine Carriers (PTC) to assist with the recruitment needs of all their brands. As far as salary goes, like I mentioned before, salaries range based on the country you are from and the amount of experience you have. The range can be between $500 USD per month to $1,500 USD per month. Additionally, here are the other authorized hiring partners in the Philippines that are used by the other cruise lines.

  29. Hi! Im steff. I have an experience in tv broadcast field, i want to work in a cruise ship in an entertainment department, do i have any chance? Please i need some help. Thank you very much.

    • Most of the major cruise lines employ some type of Broadcast Operator (Assistant) and Broadcast Manager. For example, The Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises career pages outline the job description as such: “Providing television and “radio” programming. Onboard television and radio broadcasts consist of a mix of pre-recorded and/or live material. Sources of broadcast material include satellite programming, terrestrial broadcasts, pre-recorded content, and live content. Live content can be from a satellite feed or from a lecture or show taking place onboard the ship.” Cruise lines work with a global network of hiring partners so what you need to do is apply online through a cruise line’s website, plus contact the authorized hiring partner in your country of residence.

  30. Hello, I got offer letter from princess cruise but there is no confirmed position.
is it possible? I really worried.

    • When you applied to Princess Cruises, did you apply for a specific position? Cruise lines don’t randomly send “Job Offer Letters” without going through the interview process. Be aware that this may be a scam.

  31. Hi,
I want to audition to be a dancer on a cruise line.
I have quite a few tattoos. most of them can be covered by clothing & all by make-up. However I just want to know if I should bother with the audtion process having tattoo’s?

I have a friend who is a dancer on a ship that has a few tattoos, although she said she got them while working for them.

    Any advice would help.

    • As long as you can cover the tattoos, cruise lines are alright with them.

  32. Good day,

I will not take much of your time I just want to ask you a question. My name is George I am Greek in nationality 25 years old and I have sea experience of 16 months as an Apprentice Officer and 10 months as a 2nd Officer on board Greek flagged Tanker vessels, and I am currently serving on one to be honest. My question is this do I have a chance being hired day a cruise company with the little experience I have or I should not even bother applying?
