Based in Seattle Washington, Holland America Line (HAL) is a subsidiary of Carnival Corporation, but its roots date back to the late 1800s. Holland America Line was founded in 1873 as a Dutch shipping and passenger line, providing service from Europe to the Americas.
In 1989 the Dutch line was purchased by Carnival Corporation. In 2013, Holland America celebrated their 140th anniversary. During 2013, a new entity named Holland America Group was created to operate under the Carnival Corporation umbrella. The new group’s portfolio includes Holland America, Princess Cruises, Seabourn, and P&O Cruises Australia.
